Hysteroscopy is consistently associated with high levels of anxiety, particularly around expected pain. Patients who are poorly prepared experience heightened pain perception and are more likely to withdraw consent or fail to attend.
A major driver of anxiety is misalignment between expected and actual pain levels. Immersive preparation calibrates expectations and improves procedural tolerance.
Hysteroscopy non attendance rates are significant, driven by anxiety and avoidance. Improving patient preparation directly supports attendance and reduces the cost of wasted appointments.
The intimate nature of hysteroscopy requires particularly sensitive and thorough consent. Patients benefit from understanding the procedure clearly in a calm, non clinical setting before attending.
Developed with Mr Sameer Umranikar at Princess Anne Hospital and Mr Oudai Ali at Epsom and St Helier Hospital, the Surgassists hysteroscopy module prepares patients thoroughly, reducing anxiety and improving attendance.
